Gavin's 2024 Turbo R Ultimate

The Dynamix X2 equipped Turbo R's and Pro R's are certainly an incredible suspension platform straight from the showroom floor. However, factory suspension tunes aren't dialed for specific riding styles as they are selling to the masses around the world.

Gavin is no stranger to the skinny pedal, so our setup for this vehicle had to be extremely well rounded. Cornering stability, ride comfort, and bottom out support all needed balanced. With any new vehicle, we always start with dialing in the spring kit so we can understand the forces that must be accounted for during internal valving adjustments.

Stage 1: Spring Kit

Following standard suspension setup values for spring preload, vehicle weight, and motion ratios, our first spring kit selection was a great starting point. Our first test revealed the front end of the Turbo R likes to have more spring support earlier in the compression stroke for more predictable support through big washouts. Additionally, we decided to increase the overall combined spring rate to provide more cornering stability with the addition of the heavy cage and tube work that raised the center of gravity of this vehicle.

Stage 2: Internal Valving

The internal valving took a few different iterations to get the system dialed in to Gavin's liking. For his driving style, the factory setup was just too light and it would not properly dissipate the energy from fast shock shaft events like 8"-12" rocks at increased speeds. Why slow down when you don't have to, right? By both piston and internal bypass tube valving modifications we were able to keep the comfort level at a maximum for group trail riding while providing him with more bottom out support using the position sensitive internal bypass tube ports.
